Endangered Species Conservation Committee - Governance Survey

We’re inviting you to participate in the following survey about the governance practices of the Endangered Species Conservation Committee (ESCC.)

As a result of the 2021 annual review of Agencies, Boards and Commissions, Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) determined that governance of the ESCC should be reviewed to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness of the committee.

Governance refers to the ways in which an organization functions, makes decisions, exercises its authority and accounts for its actions.

The review will assess the existence of checks and balances in structures and processes that ensure the organization is able to accomplish its mandate in a way that is effective and efficient. It does not assess performance—only that a strong system is in place to enable it.

This survey seeks to establish the current state of ESCC governance as perceived by the current representatives of its member organizations. Results of this survey will be compiled with other assessment activities to create recommendations for improvements to governance systems and processes that will enhance the functionality of the ESCC and the experience of its participants.  Recommendations will be provided for consideration of the Minister of Environment and Parks by June 2022.

Any information you provide in this survey will be used for the purpose of identifying opportunities to improve effectiveness of the Endangered Species Conservation Committee (ESCC). Personal information is collected under the authority of section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act and is managed in accordance with Part 2 of the FOIP Act. You are not required to provide any personal information as part of this survey, but any personal information, comments and/or opinions you do provide will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose without your consent or unless required to do so by law. If you have any questions about the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, please contact Sue Cotterill, Director, Species at Risk and Stewardship, by phone at 780-422-9535 or by email at sue.cotterill@gov.ab.ca.

The PurpleAir sensor is a small air quality sensor that can be used to provide information on air quality, for example when a community experiences wildfire smoke. The PurpleAir measures fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and other parameters. Alberta Environment and Parks piloted proactive deployment of PurpleAir sensors to communities for wildfire smoke monitoring in 2021. PurpleAir sensors were delivered by mail and deployed by the communities.

This survey is intended to gather feedback and information to improve community engagement and dissemination of PurpleAir data/information, as well as to guide future work planning for the project.

The intent of this prioritization exercise is to help focus our future conversations when developing recommendations for the Berland Sub-region. No outcomes are being disregarded; we are prioritizing top outcomes to provide a starting point for the task of recommendation crafting. By identifying your priority outcomes in this survey, you will help ensure that the Berland SRP recommendations reflect what's important to you and your organization.

To view the entire list of outcome statements for the Berland, click here.

    The Process:

    • You have 10 votes.
    • Until you reach the final page, question 6, you will be able to save, leave, and then go back into the survey. You will also be able to return to previous pages. However, once you hit submit after Question 6, you will not be able to enter the survey again.
    • It may be easier to have your priority outcomes chosen before entering the survey, just to ensure you can complete the entire survey in one sitting.
    • Each question only lists the numbers for the outcome statements to be considered in that question.

Step 1:  Questions 1 through 5 - Each question lists the set numbers for the outcome statements for one of the five main outcome categories. In each question, you are to choose one (1) priority outcome for that topic. The system will not allow you to choose anymore than one outcome in each question and selecting an outcome in each category is mandatory.

Step 2: Question 6 - For the last question you have five (5) remaining votes. The question has a list of all 81 outcome statements numbers. You are to select your next five (5) priority outcomes. You can chose to distribute the five over several topic areas or concentrate on one topic area. The system will only allow you to place one dot (vote) per outcome. We ask you NOT to vote for the same outcomes that you did in questions 1 through 5, but to vote for 5 different outcomes. It is mandatory to select five outcomes.
