School Library Materials (English)
The Government of Alberta wants to hear from Albertans about age-appropriate materials in school libraries
To bring more transparency and oversight to the selection and management of school library materials, including those with sexually explicit content, Alberta’s government is considering new standards that would establish consistent requirements for school boards in selecting material for their school library collections.
For the purposes of this survey, sexually explicit content refers to language, or material, including a written description, illustration, photographic image, video image, or audio file that includes explicit descriptions or visual depictions of sexual behaviour or sexual acts of any kind.
School libraries should provide developmentally or age-appropriate resources in various formats to meet the diverse needs of students across different age groups. Through this survey, we want to gather your views about what you believe is acceptable for school library collections.
This survey takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete and closes June 06, 2025.
