The Government of Alberta is evaluating the relevancy and effectiveness of the current South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (SSRP).
The Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) requires regional plans to be reviewed at least once every 10 years. This questionnaire is collecting feedback on the SSRP, which came into effect on September 1, 2014 and its amendments in 2017 and 2018. The SSRP:

- Aligns provincial polices at the regional level to balance Alberta’s economic, environmental and social goals.
- Reflects ongoing commitment to engage Albertans, including aboriginal*peoples in land-use planning.
- Uses a cumulative effects management approach to balance economic development opportunities and social and environmental considerations.
- Sets desired economic, environmental and social outcomes and objectives for the region.
- Describes the strategies, actions and approaches, and tools required to achieve the desired outcomes and objectives.
- Establishes monitoring, evaluation and reporting commitments to assess progress.
- Provides guidance to provincial and local decision-makers regarding land-use management in the region.
Relevancy and effectiveness are defined as follows:
the extent to which the components of the regional plan have significant bearing on achieving the 50-year vision.

While this review does not amend, repeal or replace the regional plan, feedback collected will be summarized in a report to the Stewardship Minister on the ongoing relevancy and effectiveness of the regional plan.
The survey takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete and closes December 6, 2024.
* For the purpose of this survey, the term “aboriginal” is used when referring directly to the SSRP 2018 or to section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982. In recent years, the term “Indigenous” has been more frequently used.
