Many perspectives, representing the diversity of those who work, live and play in the sub-region have already informed the draft plan and associated regulatory details, including through the work of the Upper Smoky Caribou Sub-regional Task Force, Indigenous communities and organizations, and sector specific working groups.
Your feedback will help us understand how the plan, supplementary information document and associated regulatory details and associated specific targeted amendments to the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan could affect you and will help us identify opportunities to strengthen the plan.

The Upper Smoky Sub-region is in the Upper Peace Region, which currently does not have an approved regional plan. In the interim, the Government of Alberta is proposing to incorporate the Upper Smoky Sub-regional Plan and associated regulatory details into the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan until the Upper Peace Regional Plan comes into effect. The Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) provides for a regional plan to “manage an activity, effect, cause of an effect or person outside a planning region until a regional plan comes into force with respect to the matter or person.
The following survey is an opportunity for statutory consent holders within the Upper Smoky Sub-region to provide alternative means and measures to the proposed management approaches in the draft Upper Smoky Sub-regional Plan and associated regulatory details that are intended to be incorporated into the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan.
For the purposes of this survey, the links to the plan and related materials are available here:
