The family justice system can be complicated and costly for Alberta families. In response, the family justice strategy aims to streamline access to the family justice system and help families avoid court when possible.

Albertans most often access the family justice system when they are restructuring – that is changing the family structure through separating or divorcing from a partnerFamilies can be defined as married couples, people in adult interdependent relationships (living together but not married), or those caring for children but not living togetherThe goal is to support these transitions so families are safe, amicable and allow children to thrive. The family justice system can also be used to help resolve issues when coordinating ongoing childcare.

Your input will help inform the ongoing development of services and programs for families.
