Classroom Composting Has Officially Launched!
FMIS has officially launched the classroom composting project in our school. In order to get the whole school excited about composting, we created a launch video that you can view here:

So far we have been running our composters about 4-6 times a day and diverting about 9 litres of food waste daily from the landfill. We have ordered a fourth composter to help keep up with the quantity of food waste we are receiving.
The whole school has adopted the program really well and we will be presenting it at the school district board of trustees meeting next week. We will also be presenting it to the Destination Conservation group (environmental leadership groups from each school that meet a few times a year) in May.
Other teachers in our school are looking forward to using our compost in a school garden this spring. We also plan to make a project wrap-up video that we can share in the community that will encourage other schools, individuals and businesses to adopt the composting project. So stay tuned!
Feel free to follow us on twitter @5Lfmis or email emilie.giroux@fmpsd.ab.ca if you have questions about this project.
