The Government of Alberta wants to hear from Albertans about age-appropriate materials in school libraries

To bring more transparency and oversight to the selection and management of school library materials, including those with sexually explicit content, Alberta’s government is considering new standards that would establish consistent requirements for school boards in selecting material for their school library collections .

For the purposes of this survey, sexually explicit content refers to language, or material, including a written description, illustration, photographic image, video image, or audio file that includes explicit descriptions or visual depictions of sexual behaviour or sexual acts of any kind.

School libraries should provide developmentally or age-appropriate resources in various formats to meet the diverse needs of students across different age groups. Through this survey, we want to gather your views about what you believe is acceptable for school library collections.

  • Le gouvernement de lAlberta souhaite connaitre le point de vue des Albertains et Albertaines sur les ressources adaptées à l’âge dans les bibliothèques scolaires. 

     

    Afin de renforcer la transparence et la surveillance lors de la sélection et de la gestion des ressources des bibliothèques scolaires, y compris celles dont le contenu est sexuellement explicite, le gouvernement de lAlberta envisage dadopter de nouvelles normes qui établiraient des exigences uniformes pour les autorités scolaires concernant la sélection des ressources pour les bibliothèques scolaires. 

     

    Dans le cadre de ce sondage, le contenu sexuellement explicite fait référence au langage ou au matériel, y compris une description écrite, une illustration, une image photographique, une image vidéo ou un fichier audio qui comprend des descriptions explicites ou des représentations visuelles de comportements sexuels ou dactes sexuels de quelque nature que ce soit. 

     

    Les bibliothèques scolaires devraient fournir des ressources adaptées au stade de développement ou à lâge des élèves, dans différents formats, afin de répondre aux besoins diversifiés des élèves de différents groupes dâge. Dans le cadre de ce sondage, nous souhaitons recueillir votre point de vue sur ce que vous croyez être acceptable pour les collections des bibliothèques scolaires. 


    Ce sondage vous prendra de 5 à 10minutes et se termine le 6 juin 2025.
